Episode 1: Introduction

Welcome to the first episode of the Nourishing Birth and Beyond podcast! I’m so excited to be sharing with you in this new medium.

The podcast focuses on providing support and information on pregnancy, birth, postpartum care, from my perspective as a a registered nurse, yoga teacher, and expert in pregnancy, postpartum care, tongue tie, and oral dysfunction.

In this episode of the podcast I talk about:

  • Who I am, both personally and professionally, an introduction to my qualifications and what makes me so passionate about this work
  • Who this podcast is for and what you can expect from future episodes
  • My specialisations in tongue tie and lactation, and why the services offered by the NHS are often so inadequate
  • The long-term vision and goals I have for my business (this bit is really exciting)

Sound bites from this episode:

“Everyone should have access to top notch care, and where it’s not available within the NHS, it needs to be offered somewhere else.”

“I’m all about being treated as the unique person that you are, the unique person your baby is.”

“The service that is currently being provided by the NHS is often very inadequate, so I’m really passionate about offering a service that really facilitates getting babies tongues moving well and resolving issues that are caused primarily by the tongue tie.”

“Having my children was really pivotal for me and changed my outlook on a multitude of things. If you asked me 15 years ago, if you told me 15 years ago that I would have the business I have now and the passions I have now, I would have looked at you strangely and been like, I don’t think so. But everything’s changed since then.”

“My goal is to, one day, in the not too distant future, open a holistic centre offering an array of services for pregnancy, birth, postpartum, tongue tie, lactation, all of those things. So it would include things like osteopaths, physiotherapists, hypnobirthing, yoga, parent and baby classes, a cafe, opportunities to meet other families, dietary dietitians, speech and language therapists, doulas, private midwives, private GPs, whatever you need to get that more holistic approach.”
